The stacking or piling of cut wood for use as fuel or otherwise is expressly prohibited within the City, except in strict accordance with the requirements of this section.
(a) No more than two cords of cut wood shall be stored outdoors on a single property;
(b) Any wood pile shall:
(1) Consist of individual cut wood segments no longer than twenty-four inches in length;
(2) Be maintained on a suitable and stable rack no less than six inches off of the ground;
(3) Be covered with a suitable and properly secured tarp or other covering to prevent water intrusion from the top of the pile; and
(4) Shall be no less than ten feet from any residential structure.
(c) This section does not apply to:
(1) The storage of any other types of cut or uncut wood, timber, branches, or other woody waste not specifically authorized herein;
(2) The indoor storage of cut wood. "Indoor" for purposes of this section shall mean wholly enclosed within a weatherproof structure properly permitted to be maintained on the property;
(3) The storage of wood ancillary to the otherwise valid operation of a lumber yard or construction supply business; nor
(4) The landfill facility maintained by the City of Freeport at 2133 South Walnut Road.
(d) For purposes of this section, a "cord" of wood shall refer to a stack of wood four feet in width, by four feet in height, and eight feet in length.
