The following signs shall be permitted in Residence Districts:
(a) Non-flashing, non-illuminated accessory signs, as follows:
(1) Nameplates and identification signs, subject to the following:
A. For one and two-family dwellings, there shall be not more than one nameplate, not exceeding one square foot in area, for each dwelling unit, indicating the name or address of the occupant or a permitted occupation.
B. For multiple-family dwellings, for apartment hotels and for buildings other than dwellings, a single identification sign not exceeding twelve square feet in area and indicating only the name and address of the building and the name of the management thereof may be displayed.
C. No such sign shall project higher than one story or fifteen feet above the curb level, whichever is lower.
D. No such sign shall project beyond a property line into a public way.
E. Such signs incident to bed and breakfast establishment use must be on a common support. No sign shall exceed four square feet per face in area.
(2) "For Sale" and "To Rent" signs, subject to the following:
A. Area and number. There shall be not more than one such sign per zoning lot, except that on a corner lot two signs, one facing each street, shall be permitted. No sign shall exceed twelve square feet in area nor be closer than eight feet to any other zoning lot.
B. Projection. No sign shall project beyond the property line of the private property on which it is erected into the public way.
C. Height. No sign shall project higher than one story or fifteen feet above the curb level, whichever is lower.
(3) Signs accessory to parking areas, subject to the following:
A. Area and number. Signs designating parking area entrances or exits are limited to one sign for each such exit or entrance and to a maximum size of two square feet each. One sign per parking area, designating the conditions or use or identity of such parking area and limited to a maximum size of nine square feet, shall be permitted. On a corner lot two such signs, one facing each street, shall be permitted.
B. Projection. No such sign shall project beyond the property line into the public way.
C. Height. No sign shall project more than seven feet above the curb level.
(b) Non-flashing business signs, as follows: church bulletins and signs for schools, hospitals, nursing homes and other nonprofit organizations, subject to the following:
(1) Area and number. There shall be not more than one such sign per zoning lot, except that on a corner lot two signs, one facing each street, shall be permitted. No such sign shall exceed sixteen square feet in area or be closer than eight feet to the lot line of the lot on which it is situated.
(2) Projection. No such sign shall project beyond the property line into the public way.
(3) Height. No such sign shall project higher than one story or fifteen feet above the curb level, whichever is less.
(c) Signs for nonconforming businesses, subject to the following restrictions: such signs shall be non-flashing, may be illuminated with not more than 200 watts, or the equivalent, per face, shall not protrude over the public way and shall not exceed twenty-five square feet in size per face.
