1468.01 DEFINITIONS.
   As used in this chapter:
   (a)   "Billboard operator" means a person who owns, leases or controls three or more signs, sign spaces or billboards and places or permits the advertising material of others thereon by lease, contract or otherwise.
   (b)   "Erect" means to build, construct, attach, hang, place, suspend or affix, and shall also include the painting of wall signs.
   (c)   "Face" and "surface" mean the surface of the sign upon, against or through which a message is displayed or illustrated.
   (d)   "Ground sign" means a sign supported by uprights or braces placed upon or in the ground, and not attached to any building.
   (e)   "Horizontal sign" means a sign which is greater in width than in height.
   (f)   "Illuminated sign" means any sign which has characters, letters, figures, designs or outlines illuminated by electric lights or luminous tubes as a part of the sign proper.
   (g)   "Non-inflammable material" means a material which will not ignite at or below a temperature of 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit and will not continue to burn or glow at that temperature.
   (h)   "Off-premises sign" means an outdoor advertising sign which advertises goods, products or services not sold exclusively on the premises upon which such sign is located. They are of three types:
      (1)   Poster panels or bulletins normally mounted on a building wall or free-standing structure with advertising copy in the form of pasted paper. The standardized size of these panels or bulletins ranges up to twelve feet by twenty-five feet.
      (2)   Multiprism signs which are similar to poster panels with alternating advertising messages on the one display area.
      (3)   Painted bulletins with the advertising message painted directly on the background of a wall or a wall-mounted or free-standing display area. These bulletins range up to fourteen feet by forty-eight feet.
   (i)   "Projecting sign" means a sign which is attached to a building or other structure and extends more than one foot beyond the surface of that portion of the building or structure to which it is attached.
   (j)   "Roof sign" means a sign erected, constructed and maintained wholly upon or over the roof of any building, with the principal support of the roof structure.
   (k)   "Structural trim" means the molding, battens, cappings, nailing strips, latticing and platforms which are attached to a sign structure.
   (l)   "Temporary sign" means any sign, banner, pennant, valance or advertising display constructed of cloth, canvas, light fabric, cardboard, wall board or other light materials, with or without a frame, for use for a limited period of time.
   (m)   "Vertical sign" means a sign which is greater in height than in width.
   (n)   "Wall sign" means all flat signs of solid face construction which are placed against, or painted on, a building or other structure and attached to or painted on the exterior front, rear or side wall of any building or other structure.
