262.01 APPOINTMENT; COMPOSITION.
   The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners shall be appointed, and shall serve, in accordance with the provisions of 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-1 et seq., as amended, as stated below. The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners shall consist of five members appointed by the Mayor with the consent of Council. Each member shall be appointed to a three-year term to begin on May 1 and to expire on April 30, and no more than two members' terms shall expire on any April 30. Vacancies shall be filled in the same manner as original appointments, except that a member appointed to fill a vacancy shall serve until the scheduled expiration of the term for the vacancy to which he or she is appointed. Any member may be reappointed to a new three-year term. Present and former non-elected employees of the City of Freeport within seven years of employment with the City of Freeport shall be prohibited from serving on the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. For purposes of this section, missing three consecutive meetings of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners shall be deemed to be due cause for removal.
