(A) It is the objective of the town library to provide circulation material and reference service to meet or supplement the needs of the town’s area residents of all ages. To implement this objective, major emphasis shall be placed on the educational and informational service of the library. For this purpose, representative materials are selected and maintained for general information, education, occupational and industrial uses, and the enjoyment and enrichment of leisure time.
(B) The library will try to provide programs of public interest for all age groups and will try to work cooperatively with schools and other community agencies and groups.
(C) The library will try to evaluate and anticipate the needs of the community. The library will try to buy books to serve the different needs of the community.
(D) The library does not serve any single group, race, creed, occupation, color or financial position. In the case of controversial topics, the library will try to accommodate various viewpoints.
(E) The library shall follow prescribed criteria in selecting various types of materials for use by library patrons.
(F) The policies of the town’s public library shall be determined by the Library Board of Trustees subject to approval by the Town Council. Members will meet at least quarterly. They may meet monthly, if needed; but if not, the librarian will send them written report in lieu of the meeting. At meetings, members will receive the librarian’s reports, discuss the library’s activities and advise on the general principles of management.
