§ 30.01 NONPARTISAN ELECTION OF CANDIDATES.
   (A)   The city hereby determines that the nomination and election of candidates for Mayor and the City Commission shall be on a nonpartisan basis in the general election in November, every four years in the case of the Mayor, beginning with 2002, and every two years for members of the City Commission beginning in 2002. The city hereby elects to forego conducting a nonpartisan primary election for the nomination of candidates for Mayor and the City Commission, regardless of the number of candidates running for the offices.
   (B)   All candidates for election to the office of Mayor and for Commission members for the four seats on the City Commission shall file nomination papers with the County Clerk no later than the first Tuesday in August preceding the general election or the date set by any applicable provision of the state statutes for holding a regular election. The nomination papers shall be filed not later than 4:00 p.m. local time, when filed on the last day on which the papers are permitted to be filed.
   (C)   The election of the Mayor and Commission members shall be governed by state law.
