5-1-1: DEFINITIONS:
The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:
ALTERED OR STERILIZED: Any dog or cat that has been surgically rendered incapable of reproducing.
ANIMAL CONTROL FACILITY: Any facility approved by the village board for the purpose of enforcing this chapter and used as a shelter for seized, stray, homeless, abandoned or unwanted dogs, or other animals. The term may be used interchangeably with pound.
ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER: The person approved by the village board who has responsibility for the enforcement of the animal control provisions of this code.
DANGEROUS DOG: Any individual dog when unmuzzled, unleashed, or unattended by its owner or custodian that behaves in a manner that a reasonable person would believe poses a serious and unjustified imminent threat of serious physical injury or death to a person or a companion animal in a public place.
FERAL CAT: A cat that is born: a) in the wild or is the offspring of an owned or feral cat and is not socialized, or b) is a formerly owned cat that has been abandoned and is no longer socialized or lives on a farm.
IMPOUNDED: Taken into the custody of the public animal control facility in or for the village where the animal is found.
OWNER: Any person having a right of property in an animal, or keeps or harbors an animal, or who has it in his care, or acts as its custodian.
UNALTERED OR UNSTERILIZED: Any dog or cat upon which no surgery has been performed to render the animal incapable of reproducing. (Ord. 657-05, 12-12-2005, eff. 1-1-2006)
