§ 32.105 DEPUTY CHIEF OF POLICE.
   (A)   Creation of position. The village creates and establishes the position of Deputy Police Chief of the Village Police Department. The Village Police Chief is authorized to appoint a Deputy Chief. In the event the Police Department has 25 or more full-time officers, the Police Chief is authorized to appoint a second Deputy Chief.
   (B)   Deputy Chief exempt rank position. The Deputy Chief position shall be an exempt rank immediately below that of Chief. The Deputy Chief may be appointed from any rank of sworn, full-time officers of the village’s Police Department, but must have at least five years of full-time service as a police officer in that department. A Deputy Chief shall serve at the discretion of the Chief and, if removed from the position, shall revert to the rank currently held, without regard as to whether a vacancy exists in that rank. A Deputy Chief of Police, having been appointed from any rank of sworn full-time officers of the village’s Police Department, shall be permitted, regardless of rank, to take promotional exams and be promoted to a higher classified rank than the Deputy Chief currently holds, without having to resign as Deputy Chief of Police.
   (C)   Termination of position of Commander. The exempt rank position of Commander of the Police Department is terminated and eliminated. The persons currently holding this position shall revert to the rank they hold which is the rank of Sergeant without regard as to whether a vacancy exists in that rank.
