9-5-1: PURPOSE AND INTENT:
The purpose and intent of this Chapter is, through the preservation, protection, planting, and proper maintenance of trees and woodlands within the Village and on land to be developed, redeveloped and/or annexed to the Village, to:
   A.   Prevent the unnecessary destruction of trees in the Village.
   B.   Aid in the stabilization of soil by the prevention of erosion and sedimentation.
   C.   Aid in the control of drainage and restoration of denuded soil subsequent to construction or grading.
   D.   Reduce stormwater runoff and the costs associated therewith and replenish ground water supplies.
   E.   Provide a buffer and screen to protect against the adverse impacts associated with noise.
   F.   Provide moderation of temperature extremes.
   G.   Aid in the removal of carbon dioxide and the generation of oxygen in the atmosphere and purify air and offset car emission pollution.
   H.   Provide a habitat and food source for birds and other wildlife which, in turn, assist in the control of pests.
   I.   Protect and increase property values.
   J.   Conserve and enhance the Village's unique physical and aesthetic environment.
   K.   Prevent the existence of trees which pose a threat, danger or nuisance to the public or to the property in the Village.
   L.   Generally protect and enhance the quality of life and the general welfare of the Village and its citizens. (Ord. 96-32, 10-7-1996)
