1-9-1-2: CHIEF OF POLICE:
   A.   Appointment: The Chief of Police shall be appointed by the Village President, by and with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees. He shall also be the Village Marshal. The Chief of Police shall be the Chief Administrative Officer of the Police Department and shall answer directly to the Village Administrator, and the Village Administrator shall share the information received with the Village President.    B.   Duties 1 : He shall be in charge of the Police Department and all members thereof shall be subject to his orders. He may make rules for the functioning of the Police Department subject to the Village President and Board of Trustees' approval. He shall keep such records and make such reports of the department as may be required by statute or ordinance. Furthermore, the Chief of Police must investigate any incidents which may require discipline of members of the department promptly, and must notify the Village Administrator of any such incidents within twenty four (24) hours of the incident. The Chief of Police shall impose discipline or decline to impose discipline only after consultation with the Village Administrator. (Ord. 2015-29, 5-26-2015)
   C.   Compensation: The compensation of the Chief of Police and members of the department shall be established by the President and Board of Trustees. (Ord. 80-7, 2-18-1980)
   D.   Inability To Serve: In the event the Chief of Police is unable to act or incapacitated, is out of town, or there is a vacancy in the Office of the Chief of Police, whether by illness or disability, the Deputy Chief shall act as supervising officer to perform all the duties of the Chief of Police and shall be the Chief Administrative Officer of the Police Department until a new Chief of Police has been appointed and confirmed in accordance with the requirements of this section.
