The president of the board of trustees shall have the supervision of the police, subject to any and all orders of the village board, and shall see that all policemen are prompt and faithful in the discharge of their duties, and from time to time shall take such measures as he may deem expedient for the preservation of peace and good order, and the enforcement of the laws and ordinances of the village.
