(A) Every person certified and appointed to a regular position shall be required to successfully complete a probationary period which shall be of sufficient length to enable the appointing authority to observe the employee's ability to perform the various principal duties pertaining to the position.
(B) Probationary periods shall be set for each class by the Commission, following consultation with the appropriate appointing authority, at not less than sixty (60) days nor more than one (1) year. An extension of the probationary period may be approved by the Commission on request of the appointing authority for a period up to a maximum of one (1) year from the date of appointment. Time served as a provisional appointee in the same class will be considered as part of the probationary period. Time in a nonpay status will not be considered in computing the expiration date of a probationary period.
