§ 33.17 SALARY DECREASE.
   (A)   Reassignment because of medical reasons. When, because of physical or other infirmities, an employee is unable to perform the duties of his position, but is qualified for service in another classification, he may, with the approval of the Civil Service Commission, be reassigned to another classification at the same rate of pay if the new classification contains such a rate, otherwise at the rate of compensation in such a classification next lower than his previous compensation. However, if he desires, he may continue to pay his retirement contribution on the basis of his higher previous salary, and upon retirement, get credit for that salary.
   (B)   Salary when demoted. When an employee is demoted, his pay should be the same rate of pay if the new classification contains such a rate, otherwise, at the rate of pay lower than his rate before demotion. However, no employee can get a salary step in the lower classification which is higher than that step which he would have been on had he been in that classification originally, without the prior approval of the Civil Service Commission.
