§ 34.03  SHERIFF’S HIRING AUTHORITY; SALARY.
   (A)   The elected office holder of the county shall have the authority to hire a Chief Deputy and negotiate a salary of no more than 75% of the salary of the elected Sheriff’s salary.
   (B)   The elected office holder may also exempt the Chief Deputy from the terms of the county’s Personnel Handbook as it relates to benefits such as personal days, sick days, and vacations days; however, all terms of the policies as it relates to local, state, and federal employment laws shall apply.
   (C)   All compensation shall fall within the approved budget of the elected office holder.
