The Fire and Medical Department is authorized to investigate promptly the cause, origin and circumstances of each and every fire occurring in the jurisdiction involving loss of life or injury to person or destruction or damage to property and, if it appears that the fire is of suspicious origin, it is authorized to take immediate charge of all physical evidence relating to the cause of the fire and is authorized to pursue the investigation to its conclusion. The Chief is authorized to investigate the cause, origin and circumstances of authorized releases of hazardous materials. The Police Department is authorized to assist the Fire and Medical Department in its investigations when requested to do so.
