8.24.050: EMERGENCY DECLARATIONS:
   A.   A local emergency may be declared by proclamation by the Mayor. It shall not be continued or renewed for a period in excess of thirty (30) days except by or with the consent of the City Council. Any order or proclamation declaring, continuing or terminating a local emergency shall be filed promptly with the City Recorder.
   B.   A declaration of a local emergency is an official recognition that a disaster situation exists within the City and provides a legal basis for requesting and obtaining State or Federal government disaster assistance. The declaration activates the response and recovery aspects of the City Emergency Operations Plan and authorizes the furnishing of aid and assistance.
   C.   The City Emergency Operations Plan shall be activated whenever a disaster occurs, or is about to occur, regardless of whether or not an emergency declaration is made, or will be made. (Ord. 17-09)
