The owner of each lot abutting upon any street or road in the Village shall keep in repair and free from nuisance and obstruction the public sidewalk in front of such lot and shall indemnify the Village for any claim made against the Village which result from any failure to repair or to keep the sidewalk free from nuisances or obstructions. “Public sidewalk” means that portion of a street between the curb lines or the lateral lines of a roadway, and the adjacent property lines, intended for the use of pedestrians.
