1507.01 DEFINITIONS.
   Unless otherwise expressly stated, the following terms shall, for the purpose of this article, have the meanings indicated in this section.
   (a)    "Approved" means accepted by the Chief of the Fire Department or the Chief of the Bureau of Fire Prevention, as a result of their investigation and experience or by reason of test, listing or approval by Underwriters' Laboratories, Inc., the National Bureau of Standards, the American Gas Association Laboratories or other nationally recognized testing agencies.
   (b)    "Assembly occupancy" means the occupancy or use of a building or structure or any portion thereof by a gathering of persons for civic, political, travel, religious, social or recreational purposes.
   (c)    "Automatic fire alarm system" means a system which automatically detects a fire condition and actuates a fire alarm signal device.
   (d)    "Basement" means a story of a building or structure having one-half or more of its clear height below grade.
   (e)    "Bonded" or "grounded" as protection against static electricity, means either that a bond or ground has been deliberately applied, or that an electrically conductive path having a resistance adequate for the intended purpose, usually one million ohms or less, is inherently present by the nature of the installation.
   (f)    "Business occupancy" means the occupancy or use of a building or structure or any portion thereof for the transaction of business, or the rendering or receiving of professional services.
   (g)    "Dwelling" means a building occupied exclusively for residence purposes and having not more than two dwelling units or as a boarding or rooming house serving not more than fifteen persons with meals or sleeping accommodations or both.
   (h)    "Dwelling unit" means one or more rooms arranged for the use of one or more individuals living together as a single housekeeping unit, with cooking, living, sanitary and sleeping facilities.
   (i)    "Educational occupancy" means the occupancy or use of a building or structure or any portion thereof by persons assembled for the purpose of learning or of receiving educational instruction.
   (j)    "Fire resistance rating" means the time in hours that the material or construction will withstand the standard fire exposure as determined by a fire test made in conformity with the "Standard Methods of Fire Tests of Building Construction and Materials, " ASTM E119, UL Inc. 263 or NFPA No. 251.
   (k)    "High hazard occupancy" means the occupancy or use of a building or structure or any portion thereof that involves highly combustible, highly flammable, hazardous chemical or explosive material, or which has inherent characteristics that constitute a special fire hazard.
   (l)    "I.C.C. container" means any container approved by the Interstate Commerce Commission for shipping any liquid, gaseous or solid material of a flammable, toxic or other hazardous nature.
   (m)    "Industrial occupancy" means the occupancy or use of a building or structure or any portion thereof for assembling, fabricating, finishing, manufacturing, packaging or processing operations; except when classed as a high hazard occupancy.
   (n)    "Institutional occupancy" means the occupancy or use of a building or structure or any portion thereof by persons harbored or detained to receive medical, charitable or other care or treatment, or by persons involuntarily detained.
   (o)    "Mercantile occupancy" means the occupancy or use of a building or structure or any portion thereof for the displaying, selling or buying of goods, wares or merchandise; except when classed as a high hazard occupancy.
   (p)    "Multi-family house" means a building or portion thereof containing three or more dwelling units; including "tenement house", "apartment", "house", "flat".
   (q)   “Owner” includes his duly authorized agent or attorney, a purchaser, devisee, fiduciary, and a person having a vested or contingent interest in the property in question.
   (r)   “Pressure vessel” means a storage tank or vessel which has been designed to operate at pressures above 15 psig.
   (s)   “Residential occupancy” means the occupancy or use of a building or structure or any portion thereof by persons for whom sleeping accommodations are provided but who are not harbored or detained to receive medical, charitable or other care or treatment, or are not involuntarily detained.
   (t)   “Storage occupancy” means the occupancy or use of a building or structure or any portion thereof for the storage of goods, wares, merchandise, raw material, agricultural or manufactured products, including parking garages, or the sheltering of livestock and other animals, except when classed as a high hazard occupancy.
   (u)   “Tank, atmospheric” means a storage tank which has been designed to operate at pressures from atmospheric through 0.5. psig.
   (v)   “Tank, low pressure” means a storage tank which has been designed to operate at pressures above 0.5. psig but not more than 15 psig.
