§ 31.18 SALARY.
   (A)   The salaries of Aldermen are fixed at an annual rate of $3,000 effective at the commencement of the terms of office beginning May 1, 2001. Beginning May 1, 2009, the salary of the Aldermen for the city shall be increased by 4% annually with the increase being effective May 1, 2009, but terminating May 1, 2023 for Aldermen who took office prior to May 1, 2021. For Aldermen who are elected at the April 6, 2021 election and who subsequently take office in May 2021, they shall also receive the 4% annual increase in salary until May 1, 2023. Effective May 1, 2023, the 4% annual increase in compensation shall terminate for Aldermen.
   (B)   (1)   The payment of the annual Aldermanic salaries shall be divided into 24 units associated with the 24 meetings of the City Council.
      (2)   Aldermen will receive one-twenty-fourth of the annual Aldermanic salary for attendance at each of the 24 meetings of the City Council.
      (3)   Aldermen will not receive payment of one-twenty-fourth of the Aldermanic salary for each City Council meeting missed by an Alderman unless the absence is occasioned by illness of the Alderman, illness of the Alderman’s spouse, children, or immediate family, or because of death of an Alderman’s spouse, children, or immediate family.
