For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
CITY. The City of Fairfield, Illinois.
CITY CLERK. The Clerk of the City of Fairfield.
COUNCIL. The Council of the City of Fairfield.
GAS. Means and includes natural gas.
LESSEE. A person holding an oil and gas lease on real estate in the city.
MAYOR. The Mayor of the City of Fairfield.
OIL. Means and includes petroleum.
OWNER. The owner of real estate in the City of Fairfield.
PERMITTEE. The person to whom a permit has been granted under the terms of this chapter.
PERSON. Both the singular and plural and shall also mean and include a natural person, individual, firm, co-partnership, association, corporation, society, syndicate or any other organizations or combination of persons or individuals.
WELL or WELLS. The hole or holes which is or are drilled or put down for the purpose of mining for and producing petroleum and natural gas or either within the corporate limits of the city.
