A member of a police department on the active list of the town at the time of appointment under this chapter may not be less than eighteen (18) years of age, must be a citizen of the United States, and must meet the minimum qualifying standards for employment as a peace officer promulgated by the Montana public safety officer standards (POST) and established in the Montana Code Annotated 1 .
