The Code Enforcement Officer shall serve notice of the violation of the provisions of this chapter, or of violations of other ordinances of the City, or of a detailed statement or plan approved thereunder, or of violations of a permit or certificate issued under the ordinances of this Municipality, on the persons responsible for such violation or for its remedy. Such notice shall order the discontinuance of any illegal action or condition or the abatement or correction of any such violation or the taking of such action as may be necessary to achieve compliance with the ordinances of this Municipality. If such violation is not corrected or such order is not complied with properly after service of such notice, the Code Enforcement Officer shall request legal counsel of this Municipality to institute appropriate proceedings at law or in equity to restrain, correct, abate or punish such violation of the ordinances or such order. In addition thereto, he or she shall issue a citation to the Police Department of this Municipality to be served upon such persons charging them with a violation of this chapter.
