§ 153.23 AMENDMENTS TO THE BOCA NATIONAL BUILDING CODE.
   The following articles and sections of the 1999 BOCA National Building Code are hereby adopted by reference and incorporated as fully as if set out at length herein:
   (A)   Chapter 1 (ADMINISTRATION) in its entirety with the following amendments:
      (1)   Section 101.1 Insert “The Elwood Fire Protection District.”
      (2)   Section 104.0 Replace Department of Building Inspections with “The Fire Prevention Bureau.”
      (3)   Section 112.3.1
            $25 permit fee.
            $5/1000 square feet of building area when the plan review is done by the Fire District.
            Fee charged by third party plan-reviewer when so used for plan reviews.
      (4)   Section 121.2 Membership of board. The board of appeals shall be the Board of Trustees of the Elwood Fire Protection Dist.
      (5)   Delete sections 121.2.1 and 121.2.2 in their entirety.
   (B)   Chapter 2 (DEFINITIONS) in its entirety;
   (C)   Chapter 3 (USE OR OCCUPANCY) in its entirety;
   (D)   Chapter 4 (SPECIAL USE OR OCCUPANCY) in its entirety;
   (E)   Chapter 5 (GENERAL BUILDING LIMITATIONS) in its entirety;
   (F)   Chapter 6 (TYPES OF CONSTRUCTION) in its entirety;
   (G)   Chapter 7 (FIRE RESISTIVE MATERIALS/CONSTRUCTION) in its entirety;
   (H)   Chapter 8 (INTERIOR FINISHES) in its entirety;
   (I)   Chapter 9 (FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS) in its entirety as amended as follows:
         Sections 901.0 through 903.0 in their entirety.
         Section 904.0 (FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS) as amended as follows:
         Section 904.1 Where required in its entirety. Delete Exceptions 1 & 2
         904.2 Use Group A as follows:
         1.   Throughout all buildings containing a use group A-1 or A-2.
         2.   Throughout all buildings with a use group A-3 or A-4 having a fire area greater than “0" square feet.
         904.3 Use Group B and M. Throughout all buildings with a use group B or M having a fire area greater than “0" square feet.
         904.4 Use Group E: Throughout all buildings with a use group E. with an area which exceeds “0" square feet
         904.5 Use Group H: Throughout all use group H fire areas with the exception of magazines used for the storage of H-1 materials which are constructed and located in accordance with NFPA 495 and the fire prevention code listed in Chapter 35.
         904.6 Use Group I: Throughout all buildings with a use group I. Delete “An automatic fire suppression system shall not be required for Use Group 1-2 child care facilities located at the level of exit discharge, which accommodate 100 children or less and in which each child care room has an exit door directly to the exterior.”
         904.7 Use Group F and S: Throughout all buildings with a use group F or S fire area greater than “0" square feet.
         904.8 Use Group R-1: Throughout all buildings with a use group R-1. Delete - exception
         904.9 in its entirety. Delete - exception
         904.10 through 917.0 in their entirety.
         918.0 FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS
         918.1 through 918.7.2 in their entirety.
         918.7.3 Zones and monitoring: The following areas shall be zoned separately:
         Exception: Buildings of use group R-2 having less than 17 dwelling units.
         918.7.3.1 Each floor shall be zoned separately and a zone shall not exceed 10,000 square feet.
         918.7.3.2 Each different type of initiating device (smoke detector, heat detector, duct detector, pull station, water or agent flow switch and the like)
         918.7.3.3 Each tenant space shall be zoned separately and shall be equipped with an approved strobe light that is visible in a public access area to indicate which tenant space the initiating device activated from.
         Exception: Dwelling units in buildings of use group R-1 or R-2 in which each floor is zoned separately.
         Add 918/.3.4 FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM MONITORING: Wherever an automatic fire suppression system, automatic fire alarm system or automatic fire detection system is required, the system shall transmit a minimum of fire, trouble and restore signals via either dedicated telephone line or dual-line digital dialer to the current dispatch center for the Elwood Fire Protection District.
         918.8 through 918.10 in their entirety.
         919.0 AUTOMATIC FIRE DETECTION SYSTEMS 919.1 through 919.3 in their entirety.
         919.4 Where required: An automatic fire detection system shall be installed and maintained in full operating condition as follows:
         919.4.1 In all buildings of use group A-1 and A-2.
         919.4.2 In all buildings of use group A-3 and A-4 not equipped throughout with an approved automatic fire sprinkler system.
         919.4.3 Use Group I: In all buildings of use group I.
         919.4.4 Use Group B, E, F, M, & S: In all buildings not equipped throughout with an approved automatic fire sprinkler system.
         919.4.5 Use Group R-1: In all buildings of use group R-1. 919.5 Delete in its entirety.
         919.6 Zones and Monitoring: Zones and monitoring shall be in accordance with Section 918.7.3
         919.7 through 919.10 in their entirety.
         920.0, 921.0, 922.0, 923.0 in their entirety.
         924.0 Supervision
         924.1 in its entirety.
         Delete Section 924.2
         Add Section 925.0 Emergency Building Entrance System.
         925.1 Where required: An approved key safe shall be installed on buildings in Elwood Township as follows:
         925.1.1 New and existing buildings required to be equipped with a fire suppression system, fire protective signaling system or automatic fire detection system, that request a Fire Department response.
         925.1.2 New multiple-family residential occupancies that have a common corridor to the living units that are locked for security reasons.
         Exception: Single story buildings in which all dwelling units have an approved exit leading directly to the outside.
         925.1.3 Additions built attached to existing buildings that cause the total square footage to become greater than 1.0 square feet.
         925.1.4 New windowless buildings greater than 1.0 square feet.
         925.1.5 Gates: All gates newly constructed that control ingress to any building shall have an approved key safe.
         925.1.6 Location: The key safe location shall be determined by the Code Official and shall be between 55 and 65 inches above grade level.
         Add Section 926.00 Existing Buildings: Existing buildings or portions thereof in which the use-group changes to a use that would require a fire alarm system or automatic fire detection system for new buildings, shall be so equipped in accordance with Section 918.0 and Section 919.0.
   (J)   Chapter 10 (MEANS OF EGRESS) in its entirety;
   (K)   Chapter 14 (EXTERIOR WALL COVERINGS) in its entirety;
   (L)   Chapter 27 (ELECTRICAL WIRING, EQUIPMENT AND SYSTEMS) in its entirety; and
   (M)   Chapter 30 (ELEVATOR AND CONVEYING SYSTEMS) in its entirety.
