For the purpose of this chapter the following words and phrases shall have the following meanings ascribed to them respectively.
AUTOS FOR HIRE. Any public vehicle other than funeral car and driverless autos for hire that does not seek its business on the public streets or in quasi- public places and which is driven and in charge of the owner or the employee. Public vehicles used for livery purposes are AUTOS FOR HIRE.
DRIVERLESS AUTO FOR HIRE. Any public vehicle which is rented or hired out to a person other
than the owner and operated by the person renting or hiring the same for his or her own use and not for the purpose of transporting persons for compensation.
PUBLIC VEHICLES. Vehicles furnishing individual service as a business in the transportation of persons, which are classified as PUBLIC VEHICLES, which seek their business or a part thereof on public streets for the purpose of transporting passengers for hire, but which do not seek their business thereon or in quasi-public places to wit: autos for hire, driverless autos for hire. Nothing herein shall apply to vehicles furnishing mass service, such as street railway cars, motor buses, and omnibuses, which move over fixed routes or on a fixed schedule, or between taxi terminals.
TAXICAB. Any public vehicle that seeks its business or a part thereof on public streets, or in quasi-public places.
TAXICAB STAND. A place of business where a taxicab is available for hire.
