§ 31.24 CITY ATTORNEY.
   (A)   Appointment. The City Attorney shall be appointed by the City Council and shall report directly to the City Council. The Mayor shall act as the direct supervisor of the City Attorney for purposes of day-to-day supervision.
   (B)   Bond. The City Attorney shall be covered under a bond pursuant to § 31.03 of this code.
   (C)   Compensation. The City Attorney shall receive such compensation as per contract.
   (D)   Removal procedure. The City Attorney may be removed, with or without cause in accordance with the contract terms, upon a majority vote of the full City Council.
   (E)   Powers and duties. The City Attorney shall act as the legal counselor and advisor of the Council and other city officials and, as such, shall give his or her opinion in writing when requested. He or she shall draft all deeds, contracts, conveyances, ordinances, resolutions, and other legal instruments when required by the Council or the City Manager. He or she shall approve as to form, in writing, all drafts of contracts and all official or other bonds before final approval or acceptance thereof by the Council. He or she shall return, within ten work days, all ordinances and resolutions submitted to him or her for consideration by the Council, with his or her approval or disapproval as to form noted thereon, together with his or her reasons therefor. He or she shall oversee and direct the prosecution and defense of all suits, actions, or causes where the city is a party, criminal or civil, and shall report to the Council, when required, the condition of any suit or action to which the city is a party.
