Any peace officer having reason to believe that a vehicle is being operated in violation of this code is authorized to require the operator to stop and submit to an inspection and/or weighing of the vehicle and load by means of either portable or stationary scales and may require the vehicle to be driven to the nearest public scales in the event the scales are within two miles in the same manner as provided by the Arizona Revised Statutes.
