§ 91.025 IMPOUNDED ANIMALS; STRAYS; DOGS AT LARGE.
   (A)   It shall be the duty of the Animal Control Authority to capture, secure, and remove in a humane manner to the Municipal Animal Shelter an animal violating any of the provisions of this chapter. The animals so impounded shall be treated in a humane manner and shall be provided with a sufficient supply of food and fresh water each day.
   (B)   Each impounded animal shall be kept and maintained at the pound for a period of not less than 96 hours after impoundment unless reclaimed earlier by the owner. Public notice of impoundment of all animals, including a general description, shall be posted at the Municipal Clerk’s office within 24 hours after impoundment, except for on weekends and holidays. Any animal may be reclaimed by its owner during the period of impoundment by payment of impoundment, capture, and notice fee, as established by the governing body, plus veterinarian expenses.
   (C)   In addition, the owner shall then be required to comply with the licensing and rabies vaccination requirements before the animal will be released. If the animal is not claimed at the end of the 96 hours after the public notice has been given, the animal becomes the property of the municipality. All animals, which shall have remained in the pound for 120 hours without being claimed, redeemed, or released shall be destroyed and disposed of in a humane manner. This section shall not apply to rabid dogs or dogs impounded pursuant to observation of suspected rabies resulting from a human exposure bite.
