1-12-8: QUALIFICATIONS OF PERSON FOR WHOM PUBLIC GUARDIAN MAY BE APPOINTED; PETITION FOR APPOINTMENT:
   (A)   A resident of Elko County, Nevada, who is eighteen (18) years of age or older is eligible to have the public guardian appointed as his/her individual guardian if he/she:
      1.   Has no relative or friend in Nevada able and willing to serve as guardian, due to illness or other circumstance which prevents their effective performance of guardian.
      2.   Lacks sufficient assets to provide the requisite compensation to a private guardian.
      3.   Has been exploited or neglected by friends or family members.
      4.   By reason of mental illness, mental deficiency, advanced age, disease, weakness of mind, or any other cause, is unable, without assistance to properly manage and take care of self.
   (B)   The public guardian is the guardian of last resort. A referral to the public guardian must be submitted and will be evaluated by the public guardian prior to acceptance. (Ord. 2004-B, 8-4-2004, eff. 9-26-2004)
