§ 94.02 DEFINITIONS.
For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
A-WEIGHTED SOUND LEVEL. The sound pressure level in decibels as measured on a sound level meter using the A-weighting network. The level so read is designated dB(A) or dBA.
CONSUMER FIREWORK. For purposes of this chapter, has the same definition of CONSUMER FIREWORK as set forth I.C. 22-11-14-1, as currently in effect, or as from time to time hereafter adopted or amended.
DECIBEL (dB). A unit for measuring the volume of a sound, equal to 20 times the logarithm to the base 10 of the ratio of the pressure of the sound measured to the reference pressure, which is 20 micropascals (20 micronewtons per square meter).
NOISE LEVEL. The A-weighted sound level produced by a motor vehicle.
SOUND LEVEL METER. An instrument which includes a microphone, amplifier, RMS detector, integrator or time average, output meter and weighting networks used to measure sound pressure levels. Such instrument shall be used for measurement of the intensity of sound and calibrated in decibels as standardized by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Readings shall be made on a dB(A) scale.
TERMINATION REQUEST. An oral or written request of any person (to specifically include, but not be limited to, a police officer with general, specific or limited police powers within the county area), reasonably addressed to or presented to a person making, continuing or causing to be made or continued, or permitting, any noise that is reasonably deemed by the requesting person to be contrary to the General Rule (see § 94.03(A)), which request seeks that the person to whom it is presented cease, continue or cause to be stopped or terminated, the making, causing or permitting of such noise.
