The concrete shall be a minimum of six (6) bag cement placed on foundation of well compacted stone not less than two inches (2") in depth. The stone shall be wetted immediately before placing the concrete. A mechanical vibrator or tamper shall be used to compact the stone. Concrete in the sidewalk shall be four inches (4") in thickness, except through driveways where it shall be sic inches (6").

   (b)   The sub-grade shall be brought to an even surface uniformly below the proposed surface of the finished sidewalk. Soft and spongy earth, vegetation or other perishable matter shall be removed and the space filled with stone, thoroughly compacted. Wherever a fill is necessary, the material used shall be stone and ti shall be spread in layers of four inch (4") maximum with each layer tampered and/or vibrated.

   (d)   Concrete shall be placed in one course to the full thickness and screeded to bring the top to a smooth even surface. Sprinkling of dry cement on the floated surface to hasten drying is prohibited. The surface shall have a broom or burlap finish. Transverse contraction joints with rounded edges shall be made at approximate intervals of five feet (5'). Saw cutting of transverse contraction joints three-quarter inch (3/4") in depth will be allowed if completed within twenty- four (24) hours after the concrete is poured.
   (e)   Construction joints shall be formed around all appurtenances such as manholes or water meter boxes extending into the sidewalks. The surface of the walk shall have a transverse slope of 3/16" - 1/4" per foot, with the low side adjacent to the street. The finished concrete shall be kept moist for at least forty-eight (48) hours. In lieu of keeping the concrete moist, it may be sealed by spraying a manufactured curing membrane uniformly over all the exposed surfaces. This operation shall be done immediately after the finishing work is done and all free water has disappeared.

The curb shall be removed to a minimum depth of two inches (2") below the gutter line leaving a level surface for the proposed walk to be constructed upon. The proposed surface of the walk shall match at the gutter line and be raised to one inch (1") above the gutter line at the backside of the curb. A maximum of 12:1 slope shall be allowed to the normal grade of the existing or proposed sidewalk.
