§ 5.27 LONGITUDINAL JOINTS.
   (A)   Longitudinal joints in the street shall be constructed with bars in accordance with detail SD-22. Longitudinal joints at the center line for half width paving, bars shall be bent at 90 degrees in the center, and placed at the mid-way point in the slab depth. One leg shall extend at right angles to the center line into the first pour and separated from the first pour by means of a continuous keyboard. Prior to pouring the second half of the pavement, the dowels shall be straightened. Great care must be used in straightening the dowels so as not to injure the concrete already in place. In no case are the dowels to be straightened before 72 hours after the first pour.
   (B)   If the pavement is to be poured through a longitudinal joint, the keyboard shall be eliminated. Bars in accordance with detail SD-22 shall be placed at the mid-way point in the slab depth and centered on the longitudinal joint. The joint shall be formed by sawing as herein specified.
