7-12-5: INFECTIOUS WASTE TREATMENT:
   (A)   Infectious waste generator shall not cause or allow any infectious waste to be deposited in any landfill unless same has been rendered innocuous by incineration, steam sterilization, or other treatment method approved in writing by the Health Officer. Proper monitoring of treatment processes should be followed to insure sterilization of the waste is achieved. Blood, blood products and body fluids may be poured via a utility sink drain or toilet into an approved sewage disposal system. Following proper grinding and screening, animal excrement and bedding material should be disposed of in an approved sewage disposal system provided the waste strength is acceptable. Once infectious waste is properly treated, it is non-infectious and can enter the general waste stream.
   (B)   Infectious waste generator-private shall be exempted from those requirements concerning infectious waste treatment as described in subsection (A) of this Section. However, all other requirements herein stated shall be considered applicable. (Ord. 90-31, 8-20-1990)
