7-12-4: STORAGE AND CONTAINMENT OF INFECTIOUS WASTE:
   (A)   Outdoor storage of infectious waste shall be in a manner and location which affords protection from animals, rain and wind; does not provide a breeding place or a food source for insects or rodents; and is accessible only to authorized personnel.
   (B)   Infectious waste, except for sharps, shall be contained in disposable leakproof plastic bags or containers that have a strength to preclude ripping, tearing or bursting under normal conditions of use. The bags shall be labeled as containing infectious waste (i.e., BIOHAZARD symbol). The bags shall be secured to prevent leakage or expulsion of solid or liquid waste during storage, handling or transport. These gags shall be placed in containers which will lend rigidity to the plastic bags such as disposable or reusable pails, cartons, boxes, drums or portable bins. These containers shall be labeled with the standard BIOHAZARD symbol or as infectious waste.
   (C)   Infectious sharps waste shall be contained in leakproof, rigid, puncture resistant, containers, and shall be tightly lidded before being placed in approved plastic bags for storage, handling and transport. These containers shall be labeled with the standard BIOHAZARD symbol or as infectious waste.
      1.   Non-infectious sharps waste shall be contained in leakproof, rigid, puncture resistant containers, and shall be tightly lidded before being placed in approved plastic bags for handling and storage.
   (D)   Reusable containers for infectious waste storage shall be rigid, durable, corrosion resistant, non-absorbent, and water tight, insect and rodent proof, and equipped with tight fitting lids or covers. Reusable containers shall be cleaned and sanitized as needed to preclude the possibility of nuisance conditions.
   (E)   Non-reusable containers, such as cardboard, styrofoam or other materials intended for single-use only shall not be re-used for any purpose. (Ord. 90-31, 8-20-1990)
