541.09  TAMPERING WITH METERS PROHIBITED.
   (a)   No person, without lawful authority, shall tamper with or by-pass any meter used for measuring the consumption of water or sewage provided to any consumer by the Board of Public Utilities, or disconnect or remove from such meter any connection, pipes or wires, or break any seal attached thereto, or damage or destroy any such meter to the extent that its accuracy or reading device, or both, becomes impaired, or procure, aid, abet or conspire with any person to do any of the aforementioned acts.
   (b)   The Superintendents of the Water and Sewer Departments, or their agents, are hereby authorized to disconnect the water service of any consumer who he has probable cause to believe has violated any provision of subsection (a) hereof.
   (c)   Whoever violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor of the third degree.
