Water mains shall be protected in accordance with the applicable Illinois Pollution Control Board Regulations and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, Division of Public Water Supplies, Technical Policy Statements. Wherever the sanitary sewer main, building service sewer, or any storm drain crosses a water main, a minimum 18 inches vertical separation shall be provided between the top of the lower pipe and the bottom of the upper pipe, and the water main shall be protected as specified on Standard Drawings No. 10 and 20 of the State Standard Specifications for Water and Sewer Main Construction. If an 18 inch vertical separation cannot be maintained, the water main shall be protected as specified on Standard Drawings No. 21, 22, 23, and 24 of the State Standard Specifications for Water and Sewer Main Construction.
