The Chief of Police is hereby authorized and directed to establish individual parking meter spaces in such portion or portions of the parking meter zones designated and described in § 353.01 and in such other zones as may hereafter be established, as are in his or her opinion necessary for the proper regulation of traffic. Each parking meter space shall be designated by lines painted or durably marked on the curbing or surface of the street and shall have a parking meter installed behind the curb adjacent thereto.
