For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
CONTRACTOR.
Any person or entity who contracts or is employed to perform any work involved in construction as specified herein. The person or entity purchasing may be the owner, occupant or resident agent of the premises or another contractor. The term CONTRACTOR excludes a person who is an employee of the purchasing person or entity. The phrase “work which requires a permit” includes, but is not limited to, the following: building, plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, sheet metal, piping, sewer, signs, refrigeration, cement, asphalt, masonry, excavating, carpentry, drywall roofing, structural steel, siding installation or sprinkler installation.
GENERAL CONTRACTOR
. A contractor, as defined above, who contracts with the owner, occupant or resident agent of the premises.
SUBCONTRACTOR.
A contractor who contracts with a general contractor or other subcontractor, but who does not contract directly with the owner, occupant or resident agent.
