(a) The Mayor is hereby authorized to purchase or rent special work clothing for employees in all cases where, in his or her judgment, working conditions are such as to require such clothing for the reasonable protection or identification of the employee.
(b) Such clothing may include rain hats, rain coats, coveralls, boots, special caps, special belts and such other items of clothing as the Mayor may deem necessary. Purchased clothing shall remain the property of the city and the Mayor is authorized to incur expense for cleaning and laundering as may be deemed necessary.
