(A) At the request of the Board of Public Works and Safety, the Mayor and the Common Council may, in the manner provided by law, provide the positions and wages of other employees assigned to work with the Police Department.
(B) If not otherwise provided by law, the Mayor and the Board of Public Works and Safety may appoint or employ other employees and assistants to the Police Department who may assist, but who shall not be members of the police force.
