8-516: POSTING NOTICE PROHIBITED:
   A.   No person shall post or affix any notice, poster, or other paper or device, calculated to attract the attention of the public, to any lamppost, public utility pole, or upon or within any public street, alley, right of way, or sidewalk, or any public structure or building, except as may be authorized or required by law.
   B.   The city council at its discretion, may consider requests made by civic organizations to relax the requirements and prohibitions addressed in subsection A of this section. The request must be submitted to the council at least thirty (30) days prior to a citywide event which will benefit the whole community. The civic organization making said request must specify the name of the event, the date of the event, its purpose and, if applicable, the event location.
   C.   The verbal approval granted by the council will be given in open meeting requiring a simple majority vote of the legislative body. The approval will be granted for a single event and will not be construed as a continuing approval for any subsequent or annual event which may occur. A civic organization shall be deemed to be an association or society of people working together to benefit the community and its citizens. The council shall not consider the request of an individual or entity whose request shall be for the benefit of a person or business. The location of placement of any notice, poster or paper device which results from the approval of the legislative body shall be specified at the time of approval.
   D.   This section shall not be construed to amend, alter, or modify any other section of this code.
   E.   The requesting organization shall be responsible for removal of all signage which was put in place as a result of the city council approval. (Ord. 1601, 6-14-2005)
