The Mayor and members of the Council shall be entitled to extra compensation at the rate of $40 per day or any fraction thereof upon attendance at any special meeting of the Mayor and Council, convention or other conference, upon the business of the city, the attendance and extra compensation of which shall be approved by a majority of the Mayor and Council in advance of such meeting, convention or other conference.
