The Dillon water system in Dillon County, South Carolina, serves a population of approximately eight thousand (8,000) and supplies residential, industrial and commercial users. Water is supplied by five (5) wells on small tracts of land. One (1) well is located outside the town limits in a sparsely developed area. An airport, a few residences, some agriculture and businesses are nearby. The other wells are surrounded by heavy development, including a number of recognized contamination sites. The system service area consists of the incorporated area, with some service outside city limits. Public sewer serves almost all the area; a few residences use septic systems.
