§ 150.09 CONSTRUCTION AND REPLACEMENT OF MAILBOXES IN RIGHT-OF-WAY.
   (A)   Mailboxes and their installation shall conform to the specifications of the United States Postal Service. The mailbox shall be mounted such that the door is 6 inches behind the back of the curb or 36 inches from the edge of pavement on rural roads, 41 to 45 inches high from the road surface to the floor of the mailbox and located on the side of the street as specified by the local Post Office.
   (B)   Address numbers must be inscribed in contrasting color in neat letters and numerals not less than 1 inch high on the side of the box visible to the carrier’s regular approach or on the door if boxes are grouped.
   (C)   It is recommended that mailboxes conform to the “U.S. Mail” and “Approved by the Postmaster General” standards and that they be installed on a 4-inch by 4-inch wood post or no greater than a 2-inch diameter standard strength steel pipe.
   (D)   The local postmaster may approve a curbside mailbox constructed by a customer who, for aesthetic or other reasons, does not want to use an approved manufactured mailbox. The custom-built mailbox must generally meet the same standards as approved manufactured mailboxes for flag, size, strength and quality of construction. If masonry mailbox stands are installed, no portion of the masonry may be closer than 8 inches from the back of the curb.
   (E)   If any mailbox is damaged or knocked down by the village’s snow removal or other village maintenance activities, the village shall reimburse the owner of the mailbox up to a maximum of $150 upon receipt of a sales receipt or invoice showing the actual costs incurred by the mailbox owner for repair or replacement of the damaged mailbox. Reimbursements shall only occur for damages reported to the Village Clerk within ten days of the date the damage occurred or as soon as reasonable thereafter.
