No person shall engage in the business of installing, maintaining, repairing, altering, replacing, moving or causing to be installed in or on any building, place or premises abutting on or adjacent to a public street, alley or way any device commonly known as a burglar alarm, fire alarm, holdup alarm or similar protection device or system without first having obtained a license for such business from the city clerk.
