§ 31.32  VILLAGE ATTORNEY.
   (A)   The Village Attorney shall, before entering upon the duties of his or her office, take, and subscribe the oath prescribed by law for other village officers, and execute a bond to the village in the penal sum of $500, with such security as the President and Board of Trustees shall approve, conditioned for the faithful performance of the duties of said office.

   (B)   (1)   The Village Attorney shall be the legal adviser of the village; he or she shall, when required, advise the President and Board of Trustees, or any village officers, in all matters of law in which the interests of the village are involved, and he or she shall draw such ordinances, bonds, and contracts, or examine and approve the same, as may be required of him or her by the President and Board of Trustees, or any committee thereof.
      (2)   Said Attorney shall prosecute or defend on behalf of the village, in all cases in which the interests of the village are involved.
      (3)   He or she shall cause executions to be issued upon all judgments, recovered in favor of the village, and see to their prompt collection. He or she shall examine all the fee bills of officers of courts, and certify to the correctness of the same, and the liability of the village for the same.
      (4)   He or she is hereby charged with the prosecution of all actions for violations of the ordinances of the village. He or she shall institute and prosecute an action in every case where there has been a violation of the ordinances of the village, when instructed to do so by the President and Board of Trustees, or the chief officer of any department of the village government, or upon complaint of any person when, in his or her judgment, the public interest shall require that the same to prosecuted.

   (C)   Said Attorney shall annually, on May 1 of each year, report in writing to the President and Board of Trustees a detailed statement of all suits instituted and pending in the courts of record wherein the village is plaintiff or defendant. In said reports, he or she shall state the names of the parties to the suits, the date of their commencement, the nature thereof, and the several steps taken by him or her to bring the same to a final issue, and he or she shall give a list of all cases disposed of in any court of record during his or her term of office, and subsequent to his or her last report, with such explanatory remarks as he or she may think proper to add thereto, to the end that the President and Board of Trustees may be kept fully advised as to the legal affairs of the village.
