In the absence of the Mayor from the city or from his or her inability from any cause to discharge the duties of his or her office, the President of the Council shall exercise all the powers and discharge all the duties of the Mayor. In case of absence or inability of the Mayor and President of the Council, the Council may appoint one of its number to act in his or her place. The President or member of the Council while performing the duties of the Mayor shall be styled the Acting Mayor. Any Acting Mayor performing the duties of the Mayor shall be entitled to the salary of the Mayor, prorated for the number of days each month that he or she is Acting Mayor.
