A "dwelling unit," for the purpose of this chapter, means a building or portion thereof, with or without cooking facilities, designed for occupancy by one or more persons, whether permanent or temporary, for residential purposes, including, but not limited to, rooming houses, apartments, mobile homes, convalescent or nursing homes, motel or hotel rooms, single-family residences and multifamily residences.
