Except as otherwise permitted by law, no person shall transport or possess upon his or her person, or in or upon any self-propelled vehicle designed for land travel, a firearm, other than a pistol, in any street, alley, park, boulevard, public property, school, dance hall, theater, amusement park, liquor establishment, store or other public property generally frequented by the general public, unless the firearm is unloaded in both the chamber and its magazine and is one or more of the following:
(a) Taken down so it cannot be readily fired;
(b) Enclosed in a case; or
(c) Carried in the trunk of the vehicle or otherwise inaccessible from the interior of the vehicle.
