Section 4.8. Nominating Petitions.
Persons desiring to qualify as candidates for any elective office under this Charter shall file with the City Clerk an Affidavit of Identity as required by State law and a petition therefor signed by not less than fifty (50) registered electors of the City not later than 4:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in August of any even-numbered year. Blank forms as required by State law for State and County officers shall be furnished by the Clerk. The Clerk shall publish notice of the last filing day for nominating petitions in the time period from the twenty-first (21st) day through the seventh (7th) day preceding the last filing day. If a qualified and registered voter signs nominating petitions for a greater number of candidates for public office than the number of persons to be elected thereto, his signatures, if they bear the same date, shall not be counted upon any petition, and if they bear different dates, shall be counted in the order of their priority of date for only so many candidates as there are persons to be elected.
