An official copy of each regulatory code adopted herein, and official copies of all amendments thereto, shall be kept on file in the office of the County Building Inspector. Such copies shall be the official copies of the codes and amendments.

The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to farm use buildings located on a bona fide farm. When questions arise as to whether or not certain lands constitute bona fide farming, the Inspections Supervisor shall consult with the County Extension Service and the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation and Conservation Service (ASCS). Residences on bona fide farms shall not be construed to be in the category of farm use buildings.

INSPECTION DIVISION
(A) There is created an Inspection Department for the county under the authority of the County Manager.
(B) The Inspection Department shall consist of a Building Inspector, a Plumbing-Heating-Air Conditioning-Energy Inspector, an Electrical Inspector, and/or other inspectors or deputy or assistant inspectors as may be authorized by the Board of County Commissioners. The County Manager may, at his or her discretion, designate one of the inspectors to act as Inspections Supervisor and be responsible to the County Manager for the immediate supervision of the Department. A single individual may hold more than one position, provided properly qualified and otherwise permitted by law.

It shall be the duty of the Inspection Department to enforce all of the provisions of this chapter and the regulatory codes herein adopted, and to make all inspections necessary to determine whether or not the provisions of this chapter and such codes are met in accordance with the provisions of G.S. § 153A-352.

No officer or employee of the Inspection Department shall be financially interested in the furnishing of labor, material, or appliances for the construction, alteration, or maintenance of a building or any part thereof, or in the making of plans or specifications therefor, unless he or she is the owner of such building. No officer or employee of the Inspection Department shall engage in any work which is inconsistent with his or her duties or with the interests of the county.
